I’m going with neutral good; and am still in the process of tweaking my character;
A question for the party, as a dwarven fighter, I picked heal as one of my skills, I get another point, according to the Hippy - what skill should I take?
Perception?
Any input is appreciated !
Perception is always good, but not a class skill for the fighter. But sometimes that +1 is all you need. Survival will help you follow tracks, but I don’t know how likely it is that there will be tracks to follow in a dungeon. It’s also used for hunting but I don’t imagine that there will be much call for that. Climb and Swim might be useful. Probably not Ride or Handle Animal. Knowledge (dungeoneering) allows you to identify oozes and aberrations.

I just looked this up because I’ve never seen anybody take Defensive Combat Training before. Is this feat a prerequisite for something you are planning to take? Or are you planning to multi class?
The reason I ask is that I don’t see the value of this feat for a Fighter.

I suppose that if I can draw an attack from a larger opponent, and then dodge it; it might save a party member from said attack.
Then Dodge is probably the feat you want. Or Shield Focus.

Oh, I see. You don’t have the Dexterity requirement for Dodge. Still, Shield Focus gives you the same benefit, as long as you have your shield.

Yeah, I’ve only ever played Magic-Users and Rangers in D & D, and not played Pathfinder before…
I have no idea about the combat, other than what I’ve seen on youtube.
I’m thinking perception for my last skill…from reading the shield focus, it gives you a bonus on attack and +1 with all shields, but I want that +4… Like I said, I don’t have xp in this game, but I’ll take the +1 (rare, but not super special) sacrifice against all creatures for that sweet +4 (I hope it’s as staggering a bonus as it is in D&D) against a big baddie.
Oh, Defensive Combat Training has been revised?
Makes sense. In my book it just raises your BAB to equal your hit dice for the purposes of calculating CMD. Which it already is for a fighter.

“I guess?” I’m just going by HeroLab, it’s quite like using SAP…You can toggle some things to check it out, but then you get some red exes and the like…

Not to my knowledge:

Defensive Combat Training (Combat)
You excel at defending yourself from all manner of combat maneuvers.
Benefit: You treat your total Hit Dice as your base attack bonus when calculating your Combat Maneuver Defense (see Combat).
As noted, probably not all that useful for a Fighter, unless it is a prerequisite for something else. I have a brawler in my tabletop campaign, so I have been setting up most of my NPCs with it, and just kind of rolled right on by it. Power Attack is generally considered the indispensable feat for first level fighters, but if you are wanting to be more of a tank, Shield Focus is not a bad idea.

How is everyone doing with their characters?

We have three (mostly) complete characters, and one that I believe has at least been started. Two others have expressed interest, but have not provided a character concept, and have not started rolling up characters to my knowledge. I would like to have a party of four to get started with, but have run three characters, so will leave it up to the players as to how long we wait.
As noted up thread, I am on call for support this week, and things have not gone well at work, so I have had limited free time this week (I pulled a 14 hour shift on Monday). Then there is St. Patty’s Day on Friday, during which I will be crawling in and out of a pub or two. It is probably a good thing that character creation is going a bit slow…

OK, Bonnie will go off and shoot force missiles at random tree stumps until we’re ready for the Party Meet-Cute.

I have started, and possibly nearly finished, a first draft.

“Outhouse tax? What in the hells is that? You overcharged me for the ale going in, and now you want to do the same for it coming out?”

I encountered no outhouses that were charging tax during my weekend jubilations, so I can’t complain too much. When it comes to overpriced ale, though…
