This occurred just before it moved to SyFy back in January 1997. The movie was “Day The World Ended”, and fans used chat rooms to riff on the movie. The riffs were mistimed, but it was an early version of tweeting while watching TV. I wrote something on this on my blog:

I remember it. I only watched a little because, like you said, the riffs were mistimed. It didn’t work for me. But it was an interesting experiment in TV.
