Sorry, I’m filling this up with posts but I keep remembering posters my dad had (he sold some, I inherited others). He was a film historian, so he had a lot. Here’s two more:

Great poster for the alternate release title of Quatermass & The Pit!

Yeah, but dang, that’s beautiful. Well, my family always asks what I want for XMas…thanks for the link!

Here’s another good one. Terrible movie, but you can’t fault H.R. Geiger for that.

Tangent: Is anyone here into letterpress concert posters? I don’t have any movie posters in my collection (though I love them), but have an absurd pile of those.

Oh yes. I took some classes in letterpress and made a few myself. I have a growing collection of letterpress books, too. Delightful art style, both to make and to enjoy.

EDIT: Here ya go. It ain’t good, but it’s proof of life.

Very cool! I’ve never done any hands-on work with them, but love the look and the process (and the smell, honestly … better than a bit stack of mimeographed quizzes).

I guarantee you it’s better than most of us here could do.

Ooh, I come back and find so many nice pieces here.

So, King Hu

I like the Criterion poster art which they offered for sale at one time and would have bought 'em. Unfortunately, since I could never get a Blu-Ray disc delivered directly from them, without the cases being crushed or broken in some way, I didn’t risk it.

I also liked their art for Lady Snowblood

I looked that up, and the movie is sadly lost (The Abyss - 1917), great art from Mikhail Kalmanson.

A Summer to Remember

Storm Over Asia - this has photographic elements, but since it’s mostly painterly I’ll share it

I have to say, my favorite poster of all time is for Last Days of Man on Earth (Aka, The Final Programme, which per Matt was at least considered for riffing in the upcoming season, though I’m kind of glad they didn’t. )

It delivers almost everything you could conceivably want in a batsh*t crazy 70’s movie poster… and it has almost nothing to do with the actual movie.

Seriously, the naked ape man in the Zardoz style gimp harness is taken from the final 15 seconds of movie which has Jerry Cornelius fusing with Miss Brunner to becomes the next stage in human evolution… which was supposed to be a sort of immortal alchemical man/woman hermaphroditic Rebus who may or may not be the next messiah or antichrist, but which the filmmakers creatively interpreted the Yeats quote from the book which calls him “a rough beast, slouching off towards bethlehem to be reborn” to mean literally slouching as a kind of strange hunchback protohominid caveman thing. (It’s a very odd movie. Blame Michael Moorcock and the guy who made the Dr. Phibes movies. )

Technically the nearly naked ladies in the giant bubble are also part of the movie, but also for only a second or two during the trippy ‘end of the world’ casino bit. The crashing moons, ray gun, and exploding city are pure artistic embellishments though.

Sad that Anna May Wong had to leave her own country to get meatier roles, I’m dying to see the movies she made for director Richard Eichberg in Germany, but so far, all I can track down are stills and posters. I like the one from Pavement Butterfly

I also am a fan of Lon Chaney, here’s a poster from one of his silent classics

And the gorgeous Chinese poster for Dark Phoenix

Wow, gorgeous, better than the movie deserves. In fact, give me an animated Dark Phoenix movie in that style, with those costumes (and a different story, of course, something more folklorish, like that poster suggests)
