Commemorating the death of HBO

Tomorrow HBO will be no more. And to celebrate all that HBO gave us, I present you with the early 80’s HBO FULL Feature Presentation opening sequence!

Thanks HBO, you served us well for 5 decades!
Crap, I’m old!

OMG I remember this opening :sob:

Though now that opening pan down the street just reminds me of this

Oooph! Yeah the 80s called with that music and graphics.

We didn’t have cable, so I never saw anything beyond the staticy splash screen on DVDs. A minute and a half for the feature presentation bit. Ouch!

One of the best things HBO ever did was From the Earth to the Moon. Maybe I’ll pull that up on the PLEX tonight and toast the end of an era.

Oh, agree! I purchased the VHS set because I loved it so much. Converted to digital several years ago, but a just solidly GREAT show!

You mean the network as a whole or just the former incarnation of HBO Max? (Though I wouldn’t put it past WBD if the former was the case.)

So many of the VHS tapes I watched as a kid were taped off HBO. Very familiar with that animation with the shiny lines around the O of the logo. (In 1983 I would have been 4/5 years old :open_mouth:)

HBO is dead! Long live Max!

Incidentally, I accidentally found out today that HBO (TV, streaming, and the “new” Max) does not air adult content…stop it, you know darn well what I mean!

That’s just what I heard, is all, while searching for something unrelated.

Something about core verticals not aligned or something.

Although, I do subscribe to HBO Max…the way they make it sound, they’re adding a bunch of content.

I’ll believe it when I see it, though. I might cancel it once Barry is over.

I know the music so well, I hear it in my sleep sometimes.

No, HBO itself isn’t going anywhere. They’re removing it from the name of the streaming service, and as I understand it, it’ll exist as the linear channel and as a hub on Max, like TCM.

That tiny, tiny percentage of people who pay for a premium movie channel rather than the streaming equivalent with far more content will see HBO. But no one else.

Okay, I thought this was the death of the channel which would have been enormous news.

I call false advertising!

The new logo is in a new app. It released about 10 or 11 pm last night. Other than that, it looks a lot like the old app (and most major streamers’ apps).

The first show I watched was “What Am I Eating?” (Subtitle “With Zooey Deschanel”.) (Pretitle “max original”.) Well, I tuned out after about 5 minutes of it, and have no plans to go back to that show. All the old stuff, shows in “my list”, etc., seem to still be there.
