It was, and thanks! My tags are deliberately silly, but in the spirit of riffing the forum itself they are relevant, however obtusely.
Itās my guilty pleasure. I would like to try it one day.
If you get the NBC app you can catch a lot of the action. The mixed doubles matches were fun to watch. It moves much faster than the 4 person team games.
Iād love to talk curling as it happens at the Olympics, but with the delay and people like me streaming it even later, Iām afraid of spoilers.
That said, US menās team vs ROCā¦what an opening match! Shuster showing again why heās skip. Clutch shots.
Well, since the OP did ask for honest opinions, Iād say curling is far, far, far less interesting to me than racewalking as a spectator sport.
Iām sure itās pretty fun to play, though.
You wouldnāt happen to know of a curling-related romantic comedy in the same vein as Walk, Donāt Run (1966), would you? Seems like a perfect setting for a screenplay!
Good idea! I donāt really know of any other movie thatās quite like Walk, Donāt Run, though.
I watched a ladies team match this morning. One of the teams was South Korea. For some reason, the shouting of the South Korean ladies as they escorted the rock down the ice stood out to me. Enough I turned the volume down on my television. Strange reaction perhaps but one I had. Good game.
That is a man with his eye on the hog.
Indeed. He eventually won in the latter ends. Sweden is presently undefeated in Olympic competition.
The tactics of Curling is why itās captivating. The ice, traction, angles, and strategy interweaving these enhances the involvement as itās playing out. I candidly canāt help but watch it.
Itās chess on ice with physics (plus drinking if youāre playing recreationally ). It takes more intelligence than physical skill (though coordination is a plus), which makes it a great nerd sport.
Unlike chess, after you decide to make your move, you actually have to execute it properly.
Good point!
Yes. Exactly the point this new woman Iām seeing made while she was absorbed in the US/GBr match yesterday.
I still think it, like every other winter sport (except maybe hockey), about as thrilling as watching paint dry.
But my gal is a super fan of the sport, and I think sheās played it before as well.
Ah, well, Iāll allow it, I guess!
I like curling because the athletes seem normal and itās the one winter sport I can see myself playing.
