He is still credited as a consulting writer in the newest episodes, I believe. Not sure what that title means though.

He is! And he’s invaluable. This season he was indeed a consulting writer, which means he helped with revisions on several host segments and overall story editing.

I got the feeling that… certain fans who were already griping ten minutes after the Netflix seasons started that “It’s just not funny anymore” and so on were reacting to their dislike of Kalan’s earlier projects. (Same with Oswalt.)
I wasn’t familiar enough with either to do that, so I’m glad I watched. There are some real gems in both seasons.
