You can submit one to three screenshots in comments on each post. Please keep your images at minimum 800px x 600px and 72 dpi. File type does not matter. YES, screenshots of host segments are welcome too!
If you’d ALSO like to throw in a favorite riff, choose one that’s relatively short. Remember to include the timestamp of where it happens in the episode. Ideally the riff should make sense when used in context with the screenshot(s) you’ve chosen. Riffs are optional, though, and if you’d rather just share screenshots, that is fine too.
All of this info will be collected and may be used in the Gizmoplex library! Your contributions are greatly appreciated, even if you can’t participate on every post. There’s zero pressure to do EVERY episode. Whatever you can do will help.
305 Stranded in Space 306 Time Of The Apes 307 Daddy-O 308 Gamera Vs. Gaos 309 The Amazing Colossal Man
“Now I’ll show you how a real astronaut suits up!” (Servo, 01:23:04)
This was a particularly challenging one to treat, for two reasons:
1.) Some of the greatest riffs in this episode play off the soundtrack or sound effects, and
2.) There are references in the riffs that I don’t think most people today will understand (K-mart, Star Search, The Rockford Files, etc.).
I really wanted to work in that one Rockford reference, but didn’t think it would work for the widest possible audience.
Same reason why I opted against using that Solid Gold reference for the Untamed Youth episode, and it absolutely killed me to not use that “Gregory Peck, this week on Solid Gold” reference.
Gamera vs Gaos - 30:05
When I was a kid I loved this movie, and the scene where Itchy rides on Gamera’s back sticks out in my memory… so a cap for nostalgia.
Crow at 1:23:00 - “There he is, we see him, he’s camping it up.”
In the end it’s up to Lesley and The Powers That Be to decide how to promote the show, but it seems to me that if you remove the pop culture references you’d be presenting the show as something it isn’t. There’ll be a lot fewer of those references when the Sci-Fi years come up, but in these first 7 seasons there are a ton of them, and I think they’re essential to the show.
Also, the new seasons make lots of dated references.
This has to do with older family members who loved The Lawrence Welk Show rather than myself, but I loved it that The Loves of Hercules worked in a Lawrence Welk reference.
Obscure references are part of the show, but I don’t know that I’ve posted many (if any). I have a lot of riffs I like, but I don’t have timecodes for them, and it would require some time and effort to locate them. I mean, we’re talking a LOT of episodes to sift through.
So I’ve mostly focused on imagery - an iconic moment, an important character. Those are a little easier to locate (you can do a quick scan on a stream and see scenes roll by) - and if it happens to have a riff to go along with it, then I post that. But yes, that means a lot of my fave riffs aren’t being included.
