The M’s had the day off, so they scored about as many runs as when they play. Same difference.
Mets have been a positive at least, the whole vibe is upbeat and fun - I don’t know where that’ll lead, I hope it’s the playoffs, but we have that vibe of late and that’s nice.
This team has more spirit than any Mets team I’ve seen since at least 2015, maybe since '86.
I was sold the night they all went out on the field to sing “OMG” with Jose Iglesias.
The Seattle Mariners on Thursday pulled off a big trade ahead of the July 30 deadline. They acquired outfielder Randy Arozarena in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Mariners are sending minor league players Aidan Smith and Brody Hopkins plus a player to be named later to Tampa Bay as part of the deal.
Good read - and the M’s aren’t done, I thought they’d go after more hitters, but they went and got a reliever. I hate that we had to lose Clase, I really liked that kid, he was electric.
Seattle needs a first baseman… a few names I’m seeing crop up in articles and on local radio…
Yandy Díaz, Tampa / Ryan Mountcastle, Balt / Josh Bell, Mia - (Pete’s dropped out of the conversation of late, and probably for good reason, it’s just not realistic)
A DH I’ve seen mentioned is Brent Rooker, but I’ve also read that the A’s dislike the M’s and are loath to trade with us.
The A’s don’t have an incentive to get rid of Rooker for less than several barrelsful of prospects, I think. He’s going to be under team control for years.
I had a feeling they might be looking to trade a reliever.
Mets - it was so nice to see Senga on the mound, 9 Ks, the big 3rd inning in support, and then… oh man, that just stinks. I really had high hopes for a strong finish with him back, but damn. MRI on Saturday. We got the win and passed the Braves, but still, damn.
Mariners, new traded player didn’t play, but the guy we called up from the minors, Vosler, hit a double and brought in 2 runs. So hey, that’s what points look like. lol. Then Rojas hits a homer, then Dylan Moore hits a homer and then Robles… HITS A FREAKING HOME RUN! Back to back to back homers! Yeesh, who are these guys… 8 - 0 in the first - and yes, it’s the White Sox, but I’ll take it at this point.
Later, Polanco hit the team’s 4th homer in the game - Kirby pitches a gem and we win 10-0. Oh man, what a relief.
Phillies have been playing like dodo since the all star break. Only winning 2 games. They better pull it back together soon, big leads in the division have a way of going away if you don’t keep adding on.
Mariners - After a difficult first half of the season, which lead to him being booed a few weeks back… Polanco has come to life and is playing like the player we’d hoped he’d be, blasting out 2 home runs tonight, with 3 RBIs.
And speaking of pitchers returning from long injuries, Brian Woo made his return - 4 scoreless innings with 3 Ks.
Our new LF Arozarena had a hit, a base on balls, and 2 SOs.
6-3 win.
Unfortunately, the Mets train came to a stop, and now we’re back a half behind the Braves.
I’m afraid we’ve probably lost Lopez for the season. Frankly, I feel lucky we got a split. Mets are looking really good. I’m not excited about the Brewers series
Seattle got seriously screwed by the ump last night, just awful… and yes, the pitcher should gather himself and battle through it, but 1 crap call, and instead of the inning being done, the wheels come off. At least today we held on and won.
Surprised and disappointed the M’s didn’t get a 1st baseman before the deadline, but reading up on it, it sounds like they tried, with several teams, but just couldn’t make a deal. I don’t think we did enough to help the O, but time will tell.
Even with their loss today, the Mets are only 8 games behind the Phillies for the division lead. They were 17 1/2 out at one point. No team has ever come from 17 1/2 behind to win a division.
