All right peoples, we all love MST3K. We all like things that a lot of other people love.
But what would you call your most niche or obscure fandom? Like, when you meet someone else who knows what you’re talking about, you squeak in excitement?
I’ve talked in the past about my complete love of the 1960s WWII drama Combat!, and I will never stop trying to turn people onto that show.

Here is a story about how you should always wear MST3K merch and show off your love of riffing to help spread the word of #MakeMoreMST3K!

I love Kung Fu films and have been collecting them for a long time and while there are many great ones out there, this thread isn’t about your 36th Chambers, Big Bosses or Drunken Masters. This is about the weird, wonderful and not so wonderful examples because some chop-socky flicks are really out there. The Brucesploitation sub-genre on it’s own is probably a thread in itself. I was originally just going to briefly go through some examples but instead I’ll highlight some of the more bizarre an…

Thought I’d show Mike some love. Some of my favorite mst skits involve Mike riffing on celebs etc. He was so gosh darn good at it. My pick of the litter is the really… really… horribly… old Jack Perkins there was so much comedy gold. What was your favorite?

Sonny Chiba, legendary martial arts star and known to MST3k fans for his very first acting role as Space Chief in Invasion of the Neptune Men, has passed away from COVID complications at age 82. I have to admit, I haven’t yet seen most of his work, so I’ll leave it to others to discuss the various merits of them. But his scene in Kill Bill is a real treasure, bringing a rare level of gravitas to the deliberately campy movie.

We’ve got some funny, creative, and intelligent people here, that all love this show. I figure, why not pool our minds together and collectively create our OWN episode of the show?
Whether or not it ever becomes an actual episode doesn’t matter. The point is the fun and the exercise of working with each other to create our own “fanfic” episode! It would also help us to get to know each other better!
So, here’s going to be the overall process:

I’m working on a Desktop app to assist people to collaboratively “riff” together, create “Fanficisodes”, and export them in some sort of format, either just as a subtitle file, and/or a custom format that can be used by my future program to play back the Fanficisode.
I’m going to use this thread to chart my progress in making the program, as well as to elicit opinions from the community on what such an application should include.
For starters, I have a basic “temp…
I don’t know how many here were around back in the Usenet days of RATMM but Jean Jackson was an incredible artist who did mst3k themed artwork and seeing the Mindless Summer art made me think about her and some of her great work. She passed away a few years ago but she loved MST and loved when people appreciated her wonderful work.
I’m going to attach 1 of her works here. Gamera at the Vet, I am lucky enough to own a print of.
I’m also attaching a link to some background on her that has a link…

Like it says in the title, what do you think are the best and/or most bizarre host segments in the history of MST3K?
I was wondering, what do all of you think would be some “nice touches” to put into the GIZMOPLEX? This would NOT be functional features, but nice ways for the announced features to be set up in a way that would pay tribute to MST3K’s rich history, memes, etc.
For example:
Every time someone enters an area, why not utilize a door sequence?
These can be a combination of classic door sequences (Seasons 1-12) or even new ones that are themed to the area the viewer is currently entering. Theore…

I’ve watched most of the MST3K episodes over the years but my memories of a lot of them are cloudy at best. I’d love some recommendations on lesser-talked-about episodes and episodes you think are similar in some way. I always seem to enjoy episodes even more when they’re recommended to me or someone shares an interesting tidbit about them.
How about something along the lines of: “if you liked that episode, I think you’ll like this one!”
Here’s a couple of mine to start us off:

I’ve always been a movie kid and once I found MST 3K something I loved to do was collect lists for possible future episodes.
When I was like 12 or 13 I even embarrassingly called Best Brains studio (trying to sound much older then I was) and asked how to submit movies for their considerations. God bless the patient woman I spoke with who explained about copyright and the films they could use.
After that call, like an idiot, I even wrote a letter addressing copyright free films and sent that in…
Sitting up late with a bit of food poisoning and reached for MST3K’s take on RING OF TERROR. It occurred to me that this isn’t the first time I’ve pulled that one out while under the weather. CRASH OF THE MOONS is another that gets frequent viewings at such times.
Which ones do you go to as “comfort food” when sick? Any special reasons why?

This is the place to offer feedback on your experience using Discourse, the forums system we are testing out as a possible contender for the MST3K community.
We are hoping that you, as a select group of testers, will come in here and experiment with Discourse and let us know what you do and don’t like about it.
You can use this post to offer broad general feedback. See the other posts in this category for ideas for other more specific areas.
They’re father and son (which I just learned), and it seems we owe them a lot! How many times have we heard one of the humans or ‘bots exclaim that, “THEY LOVE TO LAUGH, LONG AND LOUD AND HARD?” A bunch, right? Well, that—and the voice—was Ed Wynn, father of Keneen, whose lovable mug shows up in Laserblast and Parts: The Clonus Horror!
I’m so excited to learn of these family ties! (Sorry if this is common knowledge, but it’s news to me, so I had to share!)
What happened to the flair option? I used to have the green circle with the white K, then it went to just a green circle, and now I don’t even have the option for it (even though I see other people who still have flair). I kinda miss it.
While some films on Mst3k are near unwatchable without the riffing, some of them are very pleasing to the ears with their music. What’s your favorite score, soundtrack or song from a film on Mystery Science Theater 3000?
Noting the passing of Ron Popeil, the enterprising inventor/huckster whose creations would not have been out of place on MST3K.
I don’t recall ever owning a Ronco product, but there were so many it’s entirely possible that I did. How about you?
At the end of Carnival Magic during the Mads’ parade, there’s footage of an experiment (like Joel, Mike, and Jonah) but he’s wearing a purple jumpsuit. I haven’t seen all the episodes, so I may be missing something, but who was that?
Hamlet may be the most divisive episode of MST3K. However, it can be argued that it simulates a true Globe Theater experience. After all, theatergoers in Shakespeare’s day weren’t snooty dillweeds who wanted to believe that the plays were being written by Edward de Vere. They were regular folks like you and me looking for some quality entertainment. And if they thought they weren’t getting any, it’s reasonable to believe that they would heckle the performers and maybe pelt them with rancid produ…

This could be an Off topic thread but I’m trying to make it on topic anyway.
We just watched the launch here and I felt like speculating about what is likely to be added to the Moon 13 story of MST3K.
It’s a million dollar bungie jump. The second place show was better than Me First guy in the Great Space Race. Did the thrusters fire correctly on the landing craft? Is Moon 13 going to be REAL and when? Is my nephew the drumming space baby who gets Jonah’s fate?

It’s been indicated that the new season will have a Halloween special. So I thought we could speculate on the possibilities of other holiday specials and what movies to pair with them.
Arbor Day has gotten some holiday special love from the Peanuts franchise, so why not MST3K? For that, I would suggest the 1990 William Friedkin film The Guardian. Go on Youtube and you can watch the two thumbs down review Siskel and Ebert gave it, which features the silliest flying scene since Pumaman.

For those who RiffTrax, you already know. For those who don’t, this is probably my favorite recurring riff outside of MST3K.
I’ve been keeping a list for years, but I don’t own everything of theirs (whether or not my wife believes that is up for debate). Does anybody maintain a database of physical sets reused in various movies? I was watching John Ford’s “Long Journey Home” which mostly takes place on a freight ship and it looked exactly like the set used on Val Lewton’s “Ghost Ship” (great flick!). Looking through wikipedia, they say the “Ghost Ship” set was built for a 1939 movie called “Pacific Liner” but no other lineage. Anybody know of a way to track down multi-used sets?

This movie is an incredible, bizarre, beautiful trainwreck. It was made by a guy who had previously only directed commercials and is based off a dream his young daughter had. The characters all have bizarre names that sum up the single aspect to their character/personality: Fantasy, Sweet, Professor, Kung-Fu, Oshare (“Fashionable”, translated to “Gorgeous” in the English version), and Mac (which is short for the Japanese romanisation of McDonald’s. Because she’s “fat.” Well done. )

Part of what I love (and I know I’m not alone in this) about some of the movies like Future War or Final Sacrifice are that they were clearly made as “passion” projects with few resources. As an aspiring writer and game designer, some of these bad movies are actually kind of inspiring to me. I will absolutely giggle my way through Future War when I feel like I’m not good enough and I need to remind myself that no matter how weird your vision or how small your budget, you can find other people …
I wanted to post this here because of Cinema Toast:
This show takes public domain film and dubs over it with a completely different story. That and some editing transforms the original. Also, it is very funny. At least what I have watched so far, which is the first episode. I need to see more, but I was impressed with the first one. The show gave me MST vibes, but it’s also something different.
So what shows, movies, books, games, etc would you recommend to your fellow MSTies as high qua…
Ok, I’m assuming the forums are going to get more active as more people clue in. I’ve been seeing a lot of those first-time-post signs.
Here’s an idea: when you see that someone has posted for the first time, follow what the little box above their post says and directly welcome them. You’d be surprised how much of a difference it makes when you actually hear the words from a person. Imagine that you are a shy, socially awkward person who is anxious about posting here, and your first post gets a…
Some older movies make you go “Man, they just don’t make movies like they used to.”
For example, tonight I watched Baz Luhrman’s 1996 Romeo and Juliet and one thing that stood out to me was the visuals of the movie. Overdone colors and costumes, opulent Catholic imagery juxtaposed with a dirty, crime-ridden city on the beach. It’s by no means a great movie but there’s always some intentional little detail for the eye to look at to add density to the setting. I notice a lot of 80s and 90s films …
Anyone going to the Cleveland area show?
I did level 150 which includes 5 Classic Episodes (+5 bonus ones). During the survey, I am offered an option to upgrade to the Deluxe version (10+10 bonus) for $30. It tells me to do this upgrade in the question and then remove the add-on later.

BTW, among those linked above, you can ignore my Birthday thread for Frank, that’s just video, and all you have to do to reactivate video is to hit play. They are still there, nothing to restore.
Edit and I fixed the RIP Sonny Chiba post, using the “tag” trick
