Although Dory is distracted by her wards, she is not distracted enough that she fails to see Gwynn walking down the road toward the house. Having spotted the Druid approaching with a curious and not very amused look on her face, Dory has time to attempt to make excuses for why she has not visited her lover since arriving in Telhain this morning.
Ah, the perils of dating a CN…
FWIW, LA has an aura as well. It’s a class feature.
Dory’s face lights up like a beacon, as she streaks to Gwynn’s side.
“Oh, my love! I have so much to share with you, but first… I must tell you how proud I am of you, my dearest Alegwynne. I have thought much on how magnificent you were, staring down that Sheriff on the day we departed… and my heart has ached to tell you this, and I have told myself it would be the very first thing we spake of. The very first!”
She slowly moves close to take Gwyn in her arms… if permitted.
“The second thing, of course, is that I love you, My heart sings, for it is whole again.”
(Dory has heard of the subtle approach and wants no part of it!)
“A bird told me you arrived this morning.” Alegwynne says tersely, “A rather large bird, with very sharp talons who happens to be a very good friend of mine. When exactly were you planning to stop by and profess your love for me?”
She looks piercingly at Rika, “And when were you planning to introduce me to miss short, dark, and submissive? I heard about her poking around town looking for you like a lost kitten. Another long lost sister I suppose?” She stares daggers at Laele.
“I think I left my, uh… corset in my room.” Laele says, side stepping back toward the house, “I think I will pop in and get it.”
Rika steps forward with purpose, her eyes flashing. “Excuse me, that is not my name. My name is Rika Pirani, and I have many fine qualities.”
Dory is utterly chagrined. Gwyn is right: one thing needed doing, then the next, and now the day has gotten away from her. And she has hurt the one she loves, and has missed so terribly these past weeks.
She bursts into tears, her eyes wide with shock. “Oh Alegwynne… I have failed you. I became lost in my duties and forgot you were waiting. I…” She begins to sob, sinking to the ground and getting dirt on her dress. She is the picture of misery.
Rika’s mouth opens wide in shock. She looks at Alegwynne forthrightly.
“What have you done?”
“Medio, I think it’s time for some of Chaldira’s Courage.”
“Rika is Bold Companion!” Torgo pipes up cheerfully, but not entirely helpfully.
Gwynn rolls her eyes, sighs, and then drops into the dirt with Dory, reaching her arms out to embrace her. “Oh how could I stay mad at you?” It is about that time that everyone notices the letter she was clutching tightly in her hands. It looks a lot like the one that the party just recently received from the Baron, only quite a bit more crumpled.
“I’m sorry,” Gwynn apologizes sincerely to Dory as she pointedly ignores Rika. “you wouldn’t be the Dory that I love if you didn’t come home with a gaggle of strays every time you go off to that Tower.”
“I just needed to talk to you since yesterday, when I got this letter…” She presses the letter into Dory’s hand, it is definitely and invitation to court from Baron Varima. “I don’t know what to do… I’m not exactly what he would consider a model citizen.”
“That’s Alegwynne,” Bonnie whispers in Rika’s ear. “She’s Dory’s girlfriend and a very powerful druid. She has a bit of a temper, though…”
It is at least a minute and a bucket of tears before Dory is in any shape to contemplate anything beyond being forgiven and being held by her Alegwynne again.
Her face and hands are now dirty as well – she looks as un-pretty as she ever has. Maybe the time the Gunslinger head-shotted her was worse, but it’s close.
“Ah, it is… yes, I received one of these as well, and Lady Bonnidyr! All the Heroes, those who defend Telhain. I ween the Baron seeks our counsel about the Devils – my love, I have much to share with you about that as well, and… it can wait no longer.”
Dory stands up from the ground, and brings Alegwynne back to her friends. Speaking to Bonnie, she says, “My lady, I apologize, but today’s events have whelmed me - I do not feel fit to accompany you to the Temple. May I have your leave to visit with Lady Alegwynne, and return in the morning?”
Rika turns her head and whispers back, “How powerful, exactly?” She’s getting the impression that “ignored” is probably a good outcome here.
“Sure, maybe we should all put this church trip off for another day.”
“Powerful enough not to mess with,” Bonnie says to Rika.
Rika blinks, her eyes huge. “Oh. Well, I’ll introduce myself later, I suppose…”
Dory looks up in alarm, “Oh no, my lady… you look so pretty, and dear Wanderlea and the children… do not let me cause them disappointment. And you have things to discuss with Brother Lito! I… I am only one of the Heroes. Please give them my apologies.”
She smiles at Bonnie, her face quite dirty but still pretty adorable.
Ayden and Rosalynne have trouble containing their giggles at the entire affair. But it is likely Dory doesn’t notice through her tears.
“Shush!” Saerwen says to Ayden and Rosalynne under her breath as she takes each girl by their hand, “Come on girls, we don’t want to be late for evening service.” She says cheerfully, starting to lead them past Dory and Gwynne."
“Don’t be silly, my love.” Gwynne says, “Go to your service, there will be time for us later, I’m sorry I was so upset, but knowing you have an invitation, and will be there as well… that makes me feel much better.”
She looks at the girls passing them by. “These are the children from the Magic School?” She doesn’t wait for an answer, “Do any of you girls know a spell that can help clean her up?”
ETA: The three girls look between Dory and @AndrewCrossett Bonnie in askance. Searching for a clue as to what they should do.
Dory smiles at Alegwynne. "My love, I will go, at your command. Will you wait for me at the Rest? Master Coleman and Frog are there with some few of the children, certes he will introduce you as a dear friend.
“Oh, but be mindful – he seemeth to call most of them ‘Kenny,’ so be sure to ask before using the name yourself.”
How messy is Dory? Would a couple of prestidigitation spells do it?
Probably. And some help from Laele to put her hair back in order.
