News of the Weird

I sent that to the Fill in the Blank News thread and LadyShelley noted that she couldn’t come up with a better punchline than “$10 gift card”.

I stand corrected. LOL!

The better punchline is that the card didn’t even work.

Canada’s soccer team has been spying on other soccer teams with drones.

“Cheating is bad. Richard Basehart is good.” - GPC

I’m not a huge stick and ball sports fan, and don’t follow soccer at all … so this seems very odd to me…

I’m trying to figure out why the Canadian team was doing this.

Yes, they’re likely using something like Dartfish to analyze the other teams players/plays, but it’s hard to believe that no other recent video was available to run the software on? (televised/streamed games?) Not sure how big soccer is in NZ… is it televised/streaming somewhere?

If it is, this seems like it could be unnecessary. Perhaps the team is made up of players that don’t often play together like the US Basketball Dream Team? Even then… video likely exists of players/teams the NZ teams coaches coach when not competing in the Olympics? Which would likely translate well to how this team will be coached, what plays they run…

I don’t think anyone would consider studying readily/publicly available video of another team cheating. So, why so clumsily spy on these teams/cheat with a drone for what probably won’t enlighten them much compared to what’s available w/o cheating?

Odd.

So, soccer MSTies… what am I missing here?

I’d recommend never eating dinner at Justice Joseph T Deters’s house?

Probably also considers rat poison to be a seasoning…

A couple of years ago a Leeds United assistant coach was accused of spying for standing outside the Derby County practice grounds and watching their practice. So this sort of thing does happen. Anything to get an edge, I suppose.

This is one of those things that… I really hope that something here changes because there’s not really something you should be allowed to get away with.

If nothing else, for truth in advertising reasons.

As a native speaker of English, I can attest that “-less” is a common suffix meaning “without”.

Apparently not when you’re an Ohio judge.

I got mad enough to do research.

The USDA has tons of very specific definitions for “boneless” meat cuts, ALL of them being without bones. They are actually very picky about where you can cut or poke a hole to remove bones from meat. They also have a specific definition of a chicken wing (the wing is three pieces, but you can cut off the wing tip and still call it a wing). But, they never apparently contemplated anyone removing bones from real wings or, as is the case here, labeling a non-wing part (from boneless breast) as a wing.

I have learned way too much about meat regulations! I am ready to get back to more important things now. I’m also hungry. Now, who wants some boneless ribs?

There are more important things than meat regulations?

I told you - the meat trap is gone and you have to get past it!

And I didn’t realise the Park fire was started by another idiot.

I hope both of them are given long jail sentences and forced to pay restitution.

(and weren’t there fatalities with the Park fire? Would Cali law allow him to be charged with murder?)

I hadn’t heard of any, but the fire’s a long way from out (and 134 structures have burned down). And yes, he could be charged with murder or manslaughter if anyone dies.

ETA in fact our power company, PG&E, pleaded guilty to 84 counts of manslaughter for the Camp Fire that destroyed the town of Paradise:
