There’s a MST3K app for the Chromecast, but that only hooks up with your official purchases and season passes. It does have most experiments available to watch, but won’t tie in to your personal downloads, DVD rips etc.
Plex is a bit of a hindrance if you don’t follow a file-naming protocol the software likes. However, once it’s done, it’ll stay done.
There is something seriously wrong with RiffTrax on Plex. I am 100% with Lady Shelley on this. I have also given up on importing them, because no matter how carefully I name them them they don’t sort right. It likes my MST3K just fine though.
I’ve had a PLEX server for years, I know all about its quirks.
RiffTrax is the only show I cannot get to behave (there are a few specials for other shows that also refuse to work, but RT is the only series) It has to be something with the back end API at TVDb. I can have the file named exactly as they do and they still won’t sort.
And now even those other shows won’t “stay done”. For years, I have had episodes numbered 101, 102, 103, etc. It worked just fine. Then last year something again changed with the TVDb API and that numbering no longer works. Grr.
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE my PLEX. It has been a godsend for organising and watching my collection of TV shows. But, boy, can it be temperamental at times! LOL!
I just realised I originally answered the question wrongly, and described the MST3K app.
Yes, there is a RiffTrax app that’s available on the Fire TV but doesn’t show up when you search on Chromecast. You may be able to sideload it, though. Or just install the app on your phone and cast to the big screen.
It allows sorting of your library by various criteria, as well as a search function and a “rand-o-riff” button, if you can’t decide…
Hmm, I think that’s the same as the app needed for the Just the Jokes files, yes? That might work.
That first one should be different from the RiffTrax Sync app here, which is used with the Just the Joke files, but I don’t have a device that uses the current version of Google TV to confirm it. The description on the first one sounds promising, though!
That looks right to me. For iOS they also have a Rifftrax and Rifftrax Sync app. The Sync app used to just be called Rifftrax, I think, but they changed the name (at least in some way) when they released the new video streaming app to make it clear which is which.
Rifftrax’s forums seem to be having issues right now
Hey @RVR2, any chance you could alert Torgo’s Pizza?
uh oh, looks like someone forgot to renew their cert! It expired at Fri, 26 Jul 2024 17:49:04 GMT.
You can go into Advanced and proceed at your own risk and you’re fine, but they should take care of it.
Yeah I’ll shoot him a message.
Thanks
Heard back from Torgo’s Pizza:
I had to install a new SSL certificate as the old one expired. This should be fixed now!
They were off their game. Not even one Alice reference even though Phillip McKeon (R.I.P.) was the “star”? Or did I just not notice it when it happened?
I was really excited to purchase this. I was sure that the great day had finally arrived: the show was finally mining a learnin’-type short which I actually saw in school as a kid! But then, nothing in it jogged my memory.
I suspect that it was my older sister who saw it, and ended up talking about it over dinner or something. I have always remembered the title, at least.
So the score stands at: My Mother Was Never A Kid (riffed by the other RTeam), The Boy In The Plastic Bubble, The Incredible Hulk, and “The Most Important Person” (done by The Mads) as the only riffs I remember seeing in my own youth, unriffed.
Ah, well. Tomorrow is another day. With the apparent endless supply of 1970s and 80s edjamacational Velveeta, the proper concurrence could still happen… someday.
Finally realized today that RiffTrax has a roku channel that can do on demand streaming of my entire library, which as a customer of ten years or more, is pretty vast! What a wonderful surprise! I knew about the syncing app for a long time but how did I miss the emails about this? It’s so nice to be able to dial up just about anything. Super cool! Thanks RiffTrax crew!
It’s very nice to have your Rifftrax library at your fingertips.
Combine it with a Friends subscription and you basically have a dedicated Rifftrax streaming service.
Cylinders too!
In case you didn’t get the announcement, the KS shorts dropped yesterday. Now to see if I can add them to my PLEX and not have the whole thing blow up. LOL!
Maybe I’m slow and this has been public knowledge, but am I allowed to be the tiniest bit disillusioned to learn Rifftrax Live is prerecorded?
And look, I GET that’s a smart safety measure given the stakes to deliver the show and everything, and the live experience is seeing it in theaters with an audience for the first time nationwide, and I don’t doubt it’s gonna be a wildly entertaining experience but… but…
…Rifftrax LIVE tho.
There were lots (LOTS) of issues with the Rad show and theaters messing things up. I can understand why they went the prerecorded route this time.
This is the first time they’ve gone the prerecorded route, I believe.
And I like to think of it like a live album. It was recorded live, but it isn’t actually live when you listen to it.
But it is perfectly fine for you to feel disillusioned. The name says RT Live, not RT prerecorded befor a live audience.
