SHORT SPOILERS: Calvacade

Well, that was a random pairing that I didn’t expect for a short.

Perhaps some more of the “mads” will get a turn in the theater as well.

The first time I saw it, I was like…
“What is this? Opposite Day?”

Good choice! Much familiar ground in this short but configured in a new and exciting way. :tada:

Sound issue, with necessary spoiler:

J. Elvis in particular is very hard to hear in the opener. I hope that can be fixed later on.

Two things to say here:

  1. No one was expecting the Cinematic Titanic reunion in terms of the rifferes.

  2. The Nancy Kerrigan joke was so wrong (in a good way). :smiling_imp:

And we got a new Mads episode this week too. It’s a Cinematic Titanicapalooza!

Delightful surprise to have those two working together in the theater. I didn’t know Mads were even an option. Great idea using the bonus shorts like that.

Makes me wonder if we will get a surprise Kinga/Max riff.

Well, we were. But now it won’t be a surprise. Hmph. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Can we unspoiler this now?

I guess. I don’t see why not.

We got the return of a voice familiar to MSTies in the preview for next month’s film. That was cool.

Was anyone else hoping after Mary Jo said, “The bees, the bees!,” J. Elvis would do a Nic Cage and say, “Not the bees!”?

Can’t help, but wonder what this short was originally used for.

Cavalcading purposes.

If I had to guess, it was one of those ones they’d drag to high schools to give students ideas of future career fields. Though the astronomy part of it might be a loose definition.

Not sure how many high schoolers are looking for a rewarding career in ostrich racing …

These were the pre-video game and internet days. Anything goes entertainment wise.

That was one of the programs you’d see listed in the Sally Struthers commercials for the International Correspondence Schools: TV/VCR Repair, Animal Care Specialist, Hotel/Restaurant Management, Ostrich Racing…

I’m guessing it was intended to be shown in theaters. The big-time newsreels were fading out then, and someone probably thought they could make a little money with something to replace them. And maybe the telescope segment was actually advertising.

My big takeaway from the short: it’s really, really cool that J. Elvis Weinstein is still very much glad to take part in the MST3Kverse.

I dug seeing what he and Mary Jo Pehl brought to that short, and if they take on any of the other Season 13 shorts, I’ll love to see that happen!
