There was one criticism that I saw on Twitter that the fights in this movie were really slow and I kinda agree with that.
By the way, did anyone notice that GPC never came into the theater in this one?
I was curious about that too.
Cornjob!
The kaiju movies arenât really my favorite, but Gamera and MST3K are a classic pairing and theyâre always fun episodes. This one fits right into the catalogue and is another strong episode. The riffs are great all the way through, even the long, plodding, âwhy are you filming this?!â segments. I particularly liked The Critic âbuy my bookâ riff and âwhat, they were skeletons all along?â had me giggling.
The host segments were all awesome, which is becoming a trend. GPCâs appearance in the Expo sketch was hilarious, I loved Servoâs accent school (lots of MSTie characters seem to have attended), and we even got another visit from Dr. Donna. Does the reveal of Jonahâs parentage really surprise anyone? Oh, and the giant brain was amazing.
For the film itself, weâve got some more archaeologists (seriously, weâre ridiculously overrepresented in film), but these fall into the old pith helmeted, steal all the stuff and shoot anyone who gets in the way school. They obviously failed their cursed objects courses, and this is why we always do a kaiju survey before we do anything. Basic stuff, people!
âIâm going away with Grandma Pearl for a whileâŚâ
SoâŚ
Are we getting closer to figuring out what Pearlâs endgame is? She was laying it on thick at the beginning of this episode when she told Kinga that sheâs âgone above and beyond this familyâs legacy of cruel and unusual entertainment.â
Does she have an angle? And if so, what is that angle, exactly?
Yeah, when it got to the end I started wondering if I just missed it.
Oh, and I loved the whole demonic little girl riffs. They fit so well.
I think Pearlâs definitely up to something. I mean, sheâs Pearl!
I also wonder if this is going to give Synthia and Mega-Synthia an opportunity to fill in as Mads for a few episodes. I hope so, because weâve barely seen Mega-Synthia yet.
Itâs good to see the Brain hanging around Dr Donna St Phibes (it feels like we have to say her full name every time) since the 30th Anniversary Tour. Donât worry, sheâll be fine. Thatâs just how the Brain plays.
Oh, no doubt, no doubt.
When she said that she was so proud of Kinga in this episode, my Spidey Sense got mad tingly.
This was as far back as⌠the first episode of Season 13, I believe? Where Pearl said that she had tickets for her and Kinga to go see The Crawling Eye at the Gizmoplex.
Somethingâs going on⌠I just canât put my finger on it. I donât know if sheâs trying to weasel her way closer into Kingaâs life and/or take control of the experiment once again.
She wasnât happy when Kinga didnât want to do some scrapbooking, either.
Ah, but this being the Forrester family, isnât it likely both "she"s have an angle going on here?
Good point, that⌠hmmmâŚ
This season is already rocking, but automatic A+++s for every episode retroactively and from this point forward if Pearl and Kinga keep trying to betray and outmaneuver each other in some kinda Spy Vs. Spy-esque fashion.
Personally, I am hoping that the season will end with Pearl reverting to form and kidnapping Johna to be her personal slave while she flies off to a space casino, burning everything in her wake. Leaving Kinga in the dust, wishing she was half as evil as the original mama-Forrester.
Maybe she could leave something for Art.
I like that!
If there were any gut feelings to be gleaned from this episode, itâs that a -big- turn/reveal is coming.
Not sure if Max being in charge of the experiment is going to contribute to that. Perhaps thatâs part of Pearlâs master plan, too, to put Max in a position of leadership, have things go off the rails, and then assume power/control in the chaos?
Heh! That would be sharp. It would give everything a sense of completion!
I want a release of the jazzy music played during the intermission. Normally I zone out but this time it hit me just right and Iâd love to have it to listen to at leisure.
Every Gamera Fan Ever: GAMERA VS. JIGER IS THE BEST GAMERA MOVIE EVER! WHY WOULD THOSE IDIOTS AT MST3K RIFF IT?
I definitely read that as a fourth-wall-breaking âSheâll be fineâ as in, âDonât worry. Weâre not killing Donna Saint Phibes.â
Thatâs how I wanted to read it, for sure. Heh, I get so invested in stuff like this, donât pay me any mind!
What Iâm wondering is if theyâd have enough to work with when they get to the one thatâs composed partly of stock footage from other Gamera movies.
