It is not quite yet strawberry season here. The ones that we had the other day were frozen from last year.
Well, I was using frozen berries.
Oh good, maybe that means I have a few more weeks before every dish is garnished with the hives-inducers.
Don’t worry. I won’t give you any strawberries. I’ll keep them for myself.
Gorgonzola-stuffed gnocchi, asparagus, pork & fennel ragu. I’ve have grated some cheese on top, but didn’t have anything suitable. Still good.
Things I had in the fridge: roast pork, dill pickles, yellow mustard … pizza dough
Things I got at the store: Swiss cheese, shaved ham
I wasn’t sure if the result would end up here or in the regrettable foods thread, but y’all …
Cubano pizza.
I’m a little shocked how well it turned out.
He is not afraid to go beyond the limits of mere mortals
Hey speaking of strawberries I bought way too many. What should I make? (No alcohol)
Back story is I stopped to buy fruit from one this stand that’s often set up on one of the residential streets near me. She gave me the price for half a flat (6 pint baskets) and I tried to tell her that that’s too many strawberries but I think she thought I was saying it was too much money so in short I accidentally haggled an immigrant teenager down $5 That’s not what I meant! So anyway now I have half a flat of strawberries and I’ll give some to the neighbors but I’ll have ~3 pints left probably.
Oh, I wish I was there to take some!
Strawberry shortcake! Or a strawberry sauce that you could put on ice cream or waffles!
Strawberry pie.
These are good ideas. Was thinking jam but now leaning toward an easy cobbler recipe.
Do you have a dehydrator? I’ve actually got some strawberries that were about to go bad in mine right now along with papaya.
I do not but that’s an interesting idea. Make my own fruity trail mix!
I love dehydrated kiwi, but the kids eat up the fresh ones too fast for me to make it. I also do apple rings in the fall. With a mandoline, it’s pretty quick to prep, then it just dries for 6-12 hours. Mr. wyswysia makes ground beef jerky with it every six months or so, too.
Jam is really easy to make.
Or you can chop em, freeze em, and stick them in smoothies.
Or strawberry scones!
OK, well, I suck at baking and you’re well covered on that front. On the savory tip:
- Raw in spinach salad
- Refrigerator pickles
- Vinaigrette
- Roasted whole, sieved, and doctored up to make BBQ sauce
Oh yeah I should save some for salads. I never think of that but I love some fruit in a green salad.
BBQ is intriguing…
