I think this is my favorite Louis Jordan song. I chuckle when he says, “shut up, boy.”
Gangsta’s Paradise happens to be the rare Coolio song without profanity because it’s the only way he’d be allowed to sample Stevie Wonder. I doubt it would have been a crossover smash making it number one song of the year if it had cursing. It would have been a hit but not on the level it was.
Is it me, or are CCR’s longer jams criminally overlooked? For a classic American band with a sizable chunk of hits, I rarely hear much talk about their longer songs like this, “Keep on Chooglin,'” the ablum cut of “Susie Q,” and their cover of “I Heard It Through the Grapevine.”
