What are you listening to right now?

I do like a bit of Dream Theater, although the first album’s Geddy Lee-like singer was always going to be a bit polarising.

Anyhoo, here’s one of my favourite pop groups, with visuals from Moebius’ Arzak Rhapsody animation.

And an already good song made even better by an epic sax solo.

(Disc 2&3)

I’ve been binging the back catalog of the Behind the Bastards podcast, which probably means that I’m at least as disturbed as the host. Most eps are about dictators, cult leaders, etc., but the one I’m listening to is about (Class) Action Park and I am just laughing my fool head off

Still love that chromatic walk-up from Bbm9,13 to G13 starting at 1:07. I think my chords are a touch off, but close enough for just faking it. I submitted as a challenge to this golden-ear teacher/arranger/performer at a classical piano to spell each chord verbatim.

The overtones of the Hammond organ make it somewhat difficult to get exact without spending the effort to pause on each chord.

Plus, great tune. Shows the Beasties had great taste in choosing samples from this for one of their best tunes, IMHO.

Ha… have you ever heard Esquivel’s Space-Age Bachelor Pad Christmas album?

I’m not a big Christmas music person, but I’ve heard a lot of other Esquivel.

I’m listening to a space-age bachelor pad mix on Spotify right now.

RIP Randy.

New Barenaked Ladies album, In Flight. I always take a while to warm to the new ones but I am quite disappointed so far. They’ve got a formula going on in resent albums and this feels very by the numbers. Maybe a few re-listens will change my mind.
