Dream no more!
Dragging my heels before a day of great reckoning at work…watching the documentary about (writer, director) John Milius called Milius.
Perhaps it’s a way of drinking blood from a fresh kill, a hunting ritual, to gather strength from this outsized man of contempt, ability, force, and passion.

Earth vs. The Spider
12 to the Moon and not the MST3K version. I wish I hadn’t bothered.
Woo-woo! (People ask for movie recommendations and I’m very reluctant to give them without really knowing a person. I’m always happy if one lands, for sure!)
Ooh, understandable. They tend to be very unpleasant.
Meanwhile, this movie is back in theaters for some reason…Sixty…second(?) anniversary?
Very charming and very Italian film which is not really well represented by this poster at all.
This still says it better:
The starving Silvio and his common-law-wife end up (by happenstance) eating fettucine (?) and meatballs along side of Italian royalists on the eve of the referendum that would make Italy a republic.
Dino De Laurentis produces a Dino Rossi film.
Hobgoblins Tribute q&a section
Just finished Cunk On Earth.
This is satire done to near perfection, just magnificent.
Funny, I watched this during the lock down phase of the pandemic. Because I was bored, I decided to work on a list to celebrate my 60th birthday the following year - by ranking the top 60 movies released on my birth year. (I watched so many I actually wound up with a top 100, and this one made the grade.)
So yeah, a 60th anniversary tour, sure… a 62nd? That would be odd (maybe the pandemic delayed it?) But hey, a good movie regardless.
She started on Charlie Brooker’s Newswipe (and subsequent ‘Wipe’ shows), although she’s actually gotten less stupid since then. There was another character who didn’t move on with a name I can’t reproduce here, but let’s say it was similar to Barry Poopeas.
Morgan said on Seth Meyers that when she auditioned for the role, she was supposed to be posh, but she realized that it would be much funnier in her normal accent. But that’s where ‘Philomena’ comes in. She was originally upper class.
I subscribed to Shudder for a few months during “horror season” (October 1 through December 26ish). Perfect Blue (1997) was one of the main reasons I subscribed. It’s an anime movie, a psychological thriller (definitely not “cutesy” anime). Iconic.
Other highlights: The Changeling (1980) starring George C Scott, a haunted mansion story with a slow-burn pacing of its era. Lovely. And the 1995 Stuart Gordon film Castle Freak, starring Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton, who were great in it. I just wish it hadn’t been the “unrated” version, which has a scene I would describe as depraved gore. (Shudder, indeed.)
That was playing a midnight show at the Nuart and I was sorely tempted.
A favorite of mine.
Great acting. I liked it better when it was on The Last Drive-In because it’s kind of a hard watch. And Joe Bob had Barbara Crampton on, which was nice.
Just started a marathon to tie in with part 4 on Peacock. Some guy from Code Name Diamond Head is in it as well.
I want John Wick 4!
Was watching an episode of Then Came Bronson, the one with I guess Kurt Russell as the “Spitball Kid” before work.
Now I’m back into the Don Siegel picture The Big Steal with Jane Greer. Not to be confused with The Big Clock or The Big Combo…well, that line could go on for about ever…The Big Steal!
I’d like to say I’m a Don Siegel completist, which might be true, but really I’m in it for Jane Greer.
And, yes, I have John Flynn’s The Outfit cued up next.
