What are you watching right now???

I really really loved Benson & Moorhead’s “The Endless” - and just saw they’ve film 2 others since that one, so I started with Synchronic - not as fantastic as Endless, but pretty darn good. A slow burn, with ominous score, top notch acting, and an emotion filled ending. Most Letterboxers are giving it 3-stars - bite me, it’s getting a 4 from me.

All of the episodes he stars in are pretty good, even in the lackluster New Columbo years. Of course, as a director he gave us things like Last Salute to the Commodore and Murder With Too Many Notes (and apparently tried to hijack a writer credit for that one), which are pretty bottom of the barrel.

Starting to prep for :jack_o_lantern: The Most Wonderful Time of the Year :ghost: (Halloween TV/movie marathon watching, y’all ;-). Turns out, some channels are starting off with a few early offerings. Here’s one that could be called the true meaning of Horr-[-ible]:

Jaws: The Revenge (1987) (aka Jaws 4?). An IMDB 3.0 (out of 10) and a Rotten Tomatoes critics score of 2% (out of 100%…) might be all you need to know. Friday (tomorrow) morning on AMC channel. (AMC will show other Jaws movies, plus actual horror stuff, starting a week from tomorrow.)

A lot of channels’ schedules are listed on the website Halloween Movies On TV.  Sure, it’s not on-demand streaming/viewing, and you’ll do well to DVR to skip commercials, but I find it fun to see all the things I’ve maybe never heard of, or wouldn’t have thought to include. The listings cover the full range of horror from disney/family to “just sci-fi, really” to the really gory-gross, and more. Like:

7 Faces of Dr. Lao (1964) on TCM Monday morning. Actually not so bad in its own, “back then” sort of way. Starring Tony Randall, naturally.

One installment a day until a week from tomorrow in chronological order and I am including the Freddy crossover and reboot.

After I watch each Columbo episode, I head over to The Columbophile Blog to read their write-up about it. They usually have some good insights, criticisms and behind-the-scenes info about the episodes and from there I learned this –

When Lt. Columbo tells the cornered criminal that he learned about this new crime-solving technique from an article he read in a magazine (see below), that reflects the fact that it was Peter Falk who read about it in a magazine and suggested that it be used on the show.

I read that site for a spell. I got cranky after multiple visits when none of my comments, which were all appropriate I swear, ever seemed to get out of moderation hell. Then I noticed the owner doing some really shirty and uncalled for fat-shaming. At that point, I called it quits.

Yeah, the site’s good for bits of trivia, but the owner has some… weird ideas sometimes.

There was another successful site (Cake Wrecks) where I also could never get de-moderated so I quit going there, too. My heart went on.

MR_Potroast: “You can’t expect a moderator to answer a ‘What have I done?’ email. Everyone wants a piece of success. Etc…”

Me: “Don’t put a mother-crabbing ‘Contact Us’ email on your damn website if you can’t ever be bothered to check your emails! You snobby snobs!

This has nothing to do with religion aside from the topic of the animated videos she reacts to and everything to do with how hilarious and horrifying all of the AI-based animation is.

Yes. This is how you watch it. It was weird, no dialog, then more weird. Substances help!:laughing:

Lots more episodes of the old series Checkmate. To show you how times have changed, one male character says “I never knew a beautiful woman who could balance a checkbook.”

Columbo and The Murder of a Rock Star

Stars Dabney Coleman as the killer and has a brief (unnecessary, but appreciated) appearance by Little Richard.

Those are the only good things which can be said about this episode.
