What were you thinking? Bad Sit-Coms

Oh, Paul is her brother! They didn’t say who he was in the first episode!

@LadyShelley

That first one isn’t a Canadian show.

Maybe just make it ‘bad sitcoms?’

The guy who plays her husband (Paul Weston) died of an injury he sustained while in hypoglycemic shock. That’s sad.

I watched an episode and a half. I’m going back to Parker Lewis Can’t Lose now. I need comfort.

Sure, The Hathaways flopped, but maybe a scaled down version with just one chimp instead of three? Yeah, that’s the ticket!

Enter Me and the Chimp

starring Buttons, the lovely Anita Gillette and that guy from That Girl, who looks like he already knew this was a huge mistake.

As main pun writer for the song “Under the Horse” I am intrigued.

With regards to Small Wonder, about 15 years ago I watched a random episode for nostalgia’s stake, and what I found in that particular script was a lot of pretty good jokes, but they all happened to be in scenes that had nothing to do with the robot. It almost made me think “they had a good show and then someone shoved in a weird gimmick” but I watched a few more episodes and I think it was just a fluke with that particular one.

As Joel said on MST3K, Hell works better when it’s more subtle. Sure, there are the aggressively bad sitcoms like Dusty’s Trail or I Married Dora, but look at the gradual, piecemeal misery produced by a show like Friends.

Unlike The Trouble With Tracy above, “they just didn’t try” absolutely applies to Friends.

Also, pretty much any Chuck Lorre sitcom, especially Two and a Half Men.

Just incredibly lazy writing.

Glad you brought that up. That show had two of my favorite performers ever in Holland Taylor and Conchata Ferrell, and when I noticed they were in it I turned it on to check it out right away. I almost as quickly turned it off. What a waste of talent.
