What's Going On at Work?

I want to keep my job and I had a feeling my bosses would have told me to run with it. Mostly my job is quality control, with a little bit of graphic design, and there wasn’t a problem there and they were just on the side of plausible deniability. It was obvious what they were going for, but…

I totally get that. I would have burned a lot of time trying to figure out how to make the F stand for Failure or Fools or any number of other F words, and then I’d get FFFired.

One of the clerks is hacking and coughing at the counter. She wanted me to get change so I’m waiting on her and walking away to keep from catching whatever she has. She had a mask on but still… An hour later she finally gives me the change so I could run to the bank.
My vacation starts on Wednesday and I don’t want to get sick even though I’ve got my 4th COVID booster as well as the flu shot but want to minimize my risk of catching something :mask:

Action packed! I got more hours than expected today…if this keeps up, I’ll be at overtime for the week.

73 flex routes to go out, 19 ad-hoc routes picked-up by the DSPs.

Minor gripe, whoever stowed…well, it was many people, and they were at the tail end of a physically exhausting overnight shift, some of them coming up on sixteen hours of hard labor…let’s just say mistakes were made, but I dealt with the problems as they arose.

And my gal Jen stuck around for an extra hour and a half…I feel somewhat bad because, since the weather was cool and overcast all morning, I assured her it would stay that way for the afternoon. No. The sun came out, and she was not happy. But I still was glad to have her helping out, since she knows how to do things the right way and she’s pretty funny.

My trainee for yard marshall didn’t show today, so maybe tomorrow. I don’t really have a problem with him personally, but I somewhat doubt he’s going to be a strong performer in that particular role. He’ll probably be adequate, though, when I’m finished showing him how a man marshalls the yard!

OH! Hey, ponytail gal came back for RTS in a van while I was doing flex dispatch! No, nothing to say about that! I just like it, is all!

Our local street festival is starting up tomorrow for the rest of the week; I work on the block catticorner from the festival entrance. It’s always a mess, but this year it’s compounded by massive road construction downtown (it was supposed to be done last month, but y’know…) and an unusual lack of parking due to a larger-than-usual midway area. The weather’s also supposed to be stunning the whole time, so they’re expecting record crowds. I usually take these days off every year so I don’t have to deal with it, but just coming back from the Germany trip, that’s a no-go.

But instead of letting anyone who wants to work from home for a couple days, my boss just told everyone to just get here extra early to nab parking spots in the small lot next door before it fills up in the morning. :expressionless:

Why have the ability to WFH if we can’t use it? (Rhetorical. My boss prefers having everyone in the office at all times.)

Next few days are going to be suuuuch a pain in my jet-lagged rear.

Our office lets us work from home for 20 hours a week which we can split up however we want. I don’t get it. Why not pick one or the other? I mean it’s kind of nice to be able to go home in the afternoons, but it makes no sense.

A large chunk of workers got used to and decided they liked the WFH style (like me, I get a lot more done without office distractions), but employers either prefer having more employee supervision or want to justify keeping their office spaces, etc, so I think a lot of employers are trying to split the difference. And it just results in chaos.

I’m firm in the belief if the work gets done properly and in a timely matter, who cares where or when?

It’s definitely chaotic here. Everyone has a different schedule at work. We’re all here at random times. I work 7-12, take an hour lunch, then work 1-4. Because I can and they don’t care. It’s silly.

I had my mid-year performance review yesterday.

Fairly positive, but I find even good ones highly stressful. But on the bright side Dental appointment and 4th pandy shot coming up this week.

My vacation starts tomorrow and my coworker wanted to get as much done as possible before I go.
She acts like she’s so helpless when I’m gone because she can’t get everything done, yet she’s going on a 2 week vacation when I return next week so guess what? I won’t get everything done either. I expect to come back to a sh!t show so I don’t stress over it.:expressionless:

I’ve had to deal with the same angry customer for 3 hours. And the worst part was it was over something she was getting for free. Thankfully, she’s finally out of my hair.

God I hated calls like that when I was retail call support. Some people just can’t leave well enough alone.

Thankfully it was just over email for me. She did finally call, but I was at lunch, so finally someone else is dealing with her.

Nothing.

Absolutely nothing.

I’m sitting idle. My data specialist is sitting idle. My anchor of a teammate is idle.

Remember when I said we’d brought in another part time person to help with the workload?

They’re idle.

Oh, and our other part time person just came in, sat down at their desk and asked, “Anyone have work for me?” We all said, “nope,” and they replied, "What am I supposed to do then??’

Your guess is as good as ours. This is what happens when you’re overstaffed for the first half of the week, then under for the rest. :woman_shrugging:

I was supposed to go back to work today but called out due to a stomach bug. Being that it’s the day after a Federal holiday (Columbus/Indigenous people Day), I would be required to bring in a doctor’s note so as not to lose my holiday pay. So I went to the local family medical center and they prescribed me some medication and gave me a doctor’s note writing me out for today and tomorrow. I had every intention of coming into work but just felt like sh!t…
My coworker was scheduled to be on vacation so apparently she canceled her leave (once again) and immediately texted me at 10 minutes till 6am wondering where I was at… I told her I called out and was going to the doctor when they opened at 8am. Later she texted me about what the doctor said and then asked if I was going to come in to work… Uh NO ‘MOM’! I’m written out of work by a doctor for the next 2 days! That means I’m Not coming into work!! WTF?! :person_shrugging:
It’s none of her business anyway but had I known she was going to cancel her leave I would have texted her that I was not coming in just to give her a heads up.
I’m sure they think I planned to ‘extend’ my vacation but despite what they say or think, management will have to accept my doctor’s note and grant my holiday pay so I’m not worried about it.

I always make the mistake of relaxing when the business trip is over, so the knife twist of the expense report is extra painful. This last one was ten days long; they’re lucky they never had to bail me out of jail.

Back at work and sure enough I come back to a sh!t storm of crap that wasn’t done while I was on vacation…:unamused:
On top of that, the district manager is here inspecting the facility. Just so happens the postmaster is on vacation so he’s badgering the supervisors and nitpicking various things. The carriers are hurrying up to get out of here but I’m stuck here to deal with this new tyrant
