What's Going On With Your Weather?

Posted by one of our local meteorologists yesterday:

And yes, some of the higher peaks saw a bit of snow overnight. And yeah, it will be in the 90s this weekend.

SIGH

It’s 57F right now so I’ll enjoy that while it lasts.

Happy Friday! Here in the NW Suburbs here in Illinois expect some rain today (we really, really need it). High 64 and then a chilly 44 tonight. Weekend will feel like fall Saturday high of 65 and low of 45, but it will be sunny. Sunday will start off chilly with warmer air coming in the afternoon, and still Sunny. Work week looks like warmer weather will return with highs in the low 80s and lows in the 60 for the first few days and lots of sun.

Tropical Update…that system that tracked all the way across the Atlantic, has made it through the Caribbean. It never developed to more than a tropical wave, and is currently in the Bay of Campeche. It now has a high (70%) chance of becoming a tropical cyclone (Depression or Tropical Storm) early next week as it parallels the Mexico and eventually the Texas coast line.

There’s now a high chance (80-90%) of tropical cyclone development over the next 7 days. No matter what strength the winds are from future Francine, the rains will be the greatest impacts. Some double digits rainfall for those along the Texas coast and going ashore into Louisiana. Timing around midweek.

Well that High Pressure system just sitting over the middle of the country will be the weather maker for the NW Suburbs for the next 4 days. As it moves east it will bring back summer with temps in the mid 80’s and lows in the upper 50’s. Our drought continues with no rain expected. Looking at a shift Friday and Saturday possible rain  Saturday.

At 4pm CDT 9/8 the National Hurricane Center initiated advisories on Potential Tropical Cyclone Six over the western Gulf of Mexico. This system is forecast to track northward over the next few days and bring an increasing heavy rainfall and flash flood threat to portions of the central and western Gulf Coast states.

And Francine has formed :open_mouth:
Getting stronger… and fast! Pressure down to 996mb with winds up to 60mph
CAT 2 Hurricane in the upper gulf is expected and moving ashore into Louisiana this Wednesday :open_mouth:

Every day for the past week or so it’s been an extreme heat warning, a record heat warning, and now a weather alert, fire warning.

Everyone is praying for rain… and if it came, I bet the streets would be filled with people singing and dancing in it.

TS Francine’s track continues to shift eastward… It looked like the track was going to follow the Mississippi river, but now Mississippi and possibly Alabama look like they could receive bigger impacts from the storm as a result.
Meanwhile, the Carolinas could see some indirect effects from moisture being drawn in from the Atlantic by Francine as early as Thursday night, continuing into Friday, and even Saturday.
The roof work that has been going on for over a week now at my local post office could have some problems if they can’t get it covered over by Thursday :open_mouth:

7:30pm: Francine is now a hurricane… the 4th of the 2024 Atlantic season. Landfall is set for Wednesday afternoon or evening along the Louisiana coast.

Francine could make it to Cat 2 strength ( 96 to 110 mph ) before making landfall this evening in LA then could stall around Arkansas/Missouri area. There is this stationary front that’s hanging over the southeast that extends off the Carolina coast…
Why does this matter you may ask?? Well, there could be some tropical system formation off the Carolina coast next week from this front that could increase our rain chances here locally. New spot off the east coast at 20%. :open_mouth: Something I’ll be watching.

High pressure shifts eastward, low coming in from the Pacific with rain. Lower temperatures and possibly occasional precipitation next week. Fall weather may finally be arriving.

Tropical storm Gordon will form quickly out in the middle Atlantic, however it doesn’t appear to get much stronger than that.

That 75 next week looks nice. (hope it happens)

Hurricane Francine made landfall in LA this evening as a Category 2 hurricane with 100mph winds

Moisture from the remnants of Francine will move into the Carolina region today through the weekend. This will support an increase in showers and thunderstorms with locally heavy rainfall possible, more so for the western parts of the Carolinas.

Guess I better dig up my list of indoor house projects for the weekend.

Is any of that Francine rain supposed to make it to the Northeast? None of the models I’ve seen go that far ahead.

From what I’ve seen, it’s gonna dissipate before it gets to your part of the world
