Do you know how to say “I will eat all the latkes everywhere” in Hebrew, though?
We’re getting into why I didn’t have a grade 6 there
Yes hello I am here for the latkes
Not until you finish your tiny pies!
Honestly that school rocked and Im not just saying that because Im hungry
Are you also saving for Puppy College?
So I’ve seen this job posted online. It’s here in town, pays more than I’m making now, and I already know a bit about the place. In fact, I’m working on a project with some of them now. That could help or hurt, since that project’s a bit of a mess, but my part of it’s actually kept the thing on schedule in spite of that, so It’s fixed term, though, and where I am now I’m permanent and some people never leave. It’s also not really what I want to do, but neither is what I’m doing now. It’s a fairly specialised thing, though, which means there won’t be much qualified competition.
Now I’ve got to decide if I really want to apply and jump through all of those hoops in the next few weeks.
He’s gonna sell GRIT!
If you end up needing a kidney transplant let us know, maybe we can drum up a match. My sister did it, so it can’t be that hard
Minor gripe, but the Turkey Day Marathon will be interrupted Friday by my being volentold that I’m helping a family member with some HoA bull-butter.
urge to kill … rising…
grumble…
The HoA they live in has gone nuts the past few years… a lot of Karens who desperately need hobbies… and to mind their own beeswax… have taken over … one called the cops on girl scouts selling cookies… “NO SOLICITING!!!”… No, the rule is no OUTSIDE soliciting Brunhilda… these are your neighbors… so… NOT outside solicitors… It’s not that frakin complicated…
Sigh.
Good grief.
When I bought my house in 1996 the one major thing I made sure of was it was not part of an HoA. Only other regret is that it is not outside the city limits so sometimes the city meddles in my business… Only about a dozen or so times in that time frame but nothing like HoA’s.
It never used to be that bad, went almost 20 years w/o too much drama… but they’re lighting money on fire on lawyers and it’s just getting obnoxious.
They don’t seem to understand that a-hole neighbors lower property value at least as much as an unmowed lawn?
I didn’t learn any Hebrew. I tried to learn just to read it and not know the meaning of it at age 12, but the teacher was a big jerk and he also had no idea how to teach people Hebrew. He was just an Israeli guy who offered to teach kids Hebrew and parents were like, “well, he speaks Hebrew!”
So I ended up having a transliterated crib sheet for my Bar Mitzvah. My cousin is a rabbi and he was conducting the ceremony. When he found out, he angrily took me aside and said, “they may not know what you’re doing out there today, but GOD KNOWS!”
My father re-told that story many times because he thought it was so funny.
My mail carrier lives in an HoA and he tells me the frequent problems he has with them; neighbors kids throwing trash and their toys in his yard, and because he works long hours at the post office, he’s been left notices about his unkempt yard. Same issues with 'Karen’s being busy-bodies and not minding their own business or actually looking into the real culprits to why his yard looks bad… Yeah it makes me angry just hearing what he goes through with them.
HoAs are awful. I will do my best to never live anywhere with an HoA. We were really lucky to find a house in a decent, safe subdivision without an HoA.
This, and reading far more about shady moving services than anyone should have to if they don’t make $350/hr, is why I’m determined to stay in this house until death or meteor-fall (whichever comes first).
When I moved out of co-housing 23 years back, it was because I couldn’t get along with the co-owner of the house anymore. I let my real estate agent talk me into one look at a condo but that was it. No way was I putting my neck even further into such a noose. And HOAs seemed relatively rare back then. Now they’re everywhere. Bleccchhh!!!
My parents enrolled me because the school rated highly, but my parents are Christian so I was asked a few times why I was there by the teachers, to which my parents (no joke, but it is) trained me to reply with “Best school around” and if they kept asking to mention my grandpa’s WW2 service. But it really wasn’t an issue and I didn’t think about most of what im typing until years later.
But as a result I fail at both Hebrew AND Spanish as second languages.
Shalom!
That’s not as unusual as you think. My mother was president of her temple and they had an elementary school and I think maybe half of the kids weren’t Jewish. Because it was a really good school.
I mean it really was an excellent school
One place we lived the public schools were awful, but the local Catholic high school was actually pretty good. So there were lots of “oh, we’re totally super religious, yep” kids who went there, including my older siblings. Thankfully we moved before I finished middle school, so I never had to tell my parents that there’s no way I could fake that.
