What's YOUR problem? A thread for griping.

I don’t remember it being that clear, but it is the impression I have.

I’m grumpy that someone thinks we should know that pearls ‘trigger’ them and we need to put up warnings about that.

I’m grumpy that some people want to put up a ‘no grils allowed’ sign.

I reread the original post to see if I missed some cogent argument and I find what was written in that post a whole lot more disturbing than anything that happened in the movie.

I for one miss having a gril. You can put your steaks under the broiler but it’s just not the same. Plus, the damn smoke alarm always goes off even though it’s three rooms away!! :scream_cat:

Back from my cruise vacation in the Bahamas.
Back home to reality, especially when I have to pay all my monthly bills at the first of the month BOO!

Whew, this goes double for me. :flushed: I found the movie pretty tame, but at 42 I’m still not sure I’m old enough to have read that post and feel like I should call my mom and apologize just to be on the safe side.

I stopped reading when she started on ‘pearls are used in Japanese porn’ and I thought, ‘Well, THERE’S your problem!’

Just to be clear - ‘grils’ was an intentional misspelling as it’s the sign my brothers put up on their room and I intentionally violated on the grounds I was not a ‘gril’.

Japanese porn will ruin everything you love! I myself don’t watch it because I like to eat octopus and not feel weird about it.

It burns my bagel that people complain about who voices a robot when we should be grateful to have the show we all wanted during and after a pandemic.

I don’t care if people prefer another version of the character, but I can only shake my head at the melodramatic threat of walking off over it, accusations of it destroying the whole show, etc. Then again, I remember a fan on another board who felt obligated to write an entire 20-page, capslock-ridden essay in a single response box lecturing me as to why Pearl was never and could never be funny. (This poster clearly spent all her online time high as twenty kites. I’ve gotten good at recognizing that.) So I should be used to this kind of thing by now.

Some degree of toxicity seems to leak into all the fandoms. I do not mean people with small quibbles or criticisms. I think some of those are perfectly legitimate when presented constructively and I think anyone in performing arts assumes they will get that. What is not legitimate is going over the top and making something innocuous out to be an agenda. I bonded with Nate during the summer livestreams when I think we all were wrapped up in the emotional wave of it all and I think that has something to do with it too. Sentience and emotions were also newer to me then.

Casting Pearls is a christian rock’n’roll band.

To be honest, I liked all that Zoom stuff, and the various after-show things they and the other riffers set out for us. But generally in small doses. They don’t really rivet my attention, and I’d be just as happy if the cast and crew only found occasional time for them. Part of it may actually be that I’d rather avoid being wrapped up enough to feel the level of concern over an actor’s departure that others clearly feel. Or I just have no attention span. Either way.

Two of the three people under this roof have just tested covid positive (everyone’s vaxxed, mildly symptomatic), and neither of them is me, but I’m the one in isolation. Go to your room!

I hope you avoid infection. I remain grateful there are no reported cases of human-to-forklift transmission. The warehouse softball team has been wrecked though.

I feel like the one person left at the end of the zombie movie who’s armed with a rake and a torch.

I remember feeling nervous about that change, because Pearl had really been annoying as Dr. Forrester’s nagging mother. But when she took over as the main Mad I was delighted to find that she was hilarious. I think she, Bobo and Observer were as funny a Mad team, in their own way, as Clayton and Frank were.

I love her in both phases, but then again I think the whole point of the Phase 1 character was to be annoying.

The whole Deathstalker thing, with her sending Clayton on errands and then revealing her fondness for bodice-rippers… some of the funniest stuff on the show, IMHO.
