Duck… Duck… Where’s the goose?
Malta.
Mostly Canda geese here, and a small population of released Greylag geese. Oh, and one very hateful ex-domestic Swan Goose. Unfortunately I don’t get any of the exciting visiting geese like the Snow Goose.
Here’s a photo of the Swan Goose, which I call the Hate Goose. It has never gotten use to people around the lake even though it’s pretty busy all day. Relentlessly hostile once you enter its sphere of activation.
That goose’s head looks like it belongs in one of the Star Wars prequels.
I’ll be checking the cameras next week. Also, since you guys are some of my favorite people on here, I have a surprise for those who want it. It is a physical gift, so if you would like it, DM me your address and I’ll get it in the mail. If you want to know what it is before deciding, also DM me so it doesn’t ruin the surprise for others.
Only one taker? I probably won’t be making this offer again. I had these items custom made. They are mst3k themed. Anyone? I’m paying the shipping…
It took me a minute to figure out what it is carrying. That’s … impressive.
Nice surprise on my wildflower walk this weekend - a Barred Owl. Always a pleasure to hear and see them out and about.
Was out in the field most of the day today and made a couple friends.
Snek friends I found in a mowed area soaking up the sun.
I also found a froggy friend that I was unable to catch. Hopefully, after knee surgery I will be a bit more nimble. Probably a pacific chorus frog, but they look quite similar to red legged frogs, which are also in the area.
WATCH OUT!
(love the pics!)
From a recent walk, saw an immature hawk which I think is either a Northern Goshawk or a Cooper’s Hawk. I’m leaning towards the former due to size, but will get my birding friends to make the final determination.
Also got pictures of an Eastern Fence Lizard. Most lizards we spot on our walks here are skinks, so it was great to see a more “proper” lizard, i.e., one with dragon-like scales.
We have some similar lizards over here and I once had to rescue one out of the security building because all the big security guys were too afraid to touch it
We get tons of these little guys (a really big one might be 6" nose to tail, most are smaller). They’re very skittish though so I’ve never gotten a really good picture.
All missing images in the Wildlife thread should now be restored. Huzzah!
OMG! You guys won’t believe what my friend Julia got to see today!
As most of you know, I work on a military base. My friend Julia works on a nearby base and is a biologist. Apparently this guy stowed away on one of the ships. It was taken to a nearby rehab center. I doubt I will ever again be able to use the phrase “It looks like a booby!” again in a context without embarrassment.
