Visiting family in Indiana, saw some Hoosier deer this morning.

This. On the side of our house tonight… Some sort of wasp carrying a dead spider.

Sadly that spider was most likely not dead.

When I knocked the pair onto the ground, Spider was most definitely dead. If they can do it, rigor mortis had settled in a while ago.

The THW injects venom into the spider that paralyzes it for a good long while so that they can lay their eggs in it and the larvae hatch and feed off the still alive, but helpless spider. Ah, nature.

This is probably the best photo I’ve ever gotten of one of the frogs living in our backyard pond.
