I’m sure there’s been at least one forum thread here about what the first MST episode you watched was, but I’m interested to know, what was the first episode with each host that you watched? For me it was:
Joel - Manos, because of course it was
Mike - The Beast of Yucca Flats
Jonah - Mac & Me, because of course it was
Joel - Bride of the Monster (aka the first MST3K episode I saw overall)
Mike - … I dunno
Jonah - Mac and Me (when my family recently got Netflix last year)
Emily - Moon Zero Two (riff-along edition), Making Contact (will happen in December)
Jonah - Mac and Me (when my family recently got Netflix last year)
hehe i imagine a lot of people gravitated to mac and me if they got netflix after getting into mst3k, given that besides manos it’s probably the most infamous film they’ve ever riffed
Joel: Gamera vs. Barugon (first MST3K I saw)
Mike: The Brain that Wouldn’t Die
Jonah: Reptilicus
Emily: Moon Zero Two riff-along (and the live show, but she didn’t riff).
Joel: The Amazing Colossal Man.
Mike: I don’t quite remember but it was probably The Atomic Brain. Something around that time.
Jonah: Reptillicus.
Emily: Just the live tour.
Joel: The Amazing Colossal Man
Mike: This Island Earth
Jonah: Reptillicus
Emily: No Retreat, No Surrender (she riffed on a short segement of the film while Joel was off stage)
Joel: Pod People (still one of my favorites.)
Mike: This Island Earth
Jonah: Reptilicus (my younger brother was a backer for that kickstarter, watched the first episode with him and was so happy to see how awesome it was.)
Joel- Pod People
Mike- The Brain That Wouldn’t Die
Jonah- Reptilicus …unless you count the Rifftrax Live MST3K reunion where he riffed with Joel and later with everyone.
Emily- Behind the Scenes at the Grocery Store
I disagree with that assessment regarding Manos, as it only became infamous after its screening on MST3K. Prior to that, it languished in complete obscurity, with the only mostly accurate information on it appearing in The Psychotronic Encyclopedia of Film.
Joel: I Accuse My Parents
Mike: The Wild, Wild World of Batwoman
Jonah: Reptilicus
I get the impression that the guy who wrote the entry must have learned about it from someone who was at the premiere in El Paso and the memory wasn’t perfect. The other error in the otherwise spot on description cites Manos as being the name of the Master rather than of the deity the cult worships.
