Robot Wars subplots: MIA

Meanwhile, this plot I actually always understood, because a) it’s based in the real world instead something jotted down on a napkin (they went and made actual rules to stop something like that from happening) and b) that movie was far superior in every way to Robot Wars.

Honestly this whole movie felt like the extended version of the FMV opening for a Sega Saturn game. Specifically, this one.

And yes, the MST3K-style riffing with silhouettes is in the actual game.

I think the main issue with Trading Places is that their plan to steal the report doesn’t make a lick of sense.

I mean, pretty much everything I said is stated outright in the movie, and the rest is strongly implied. It’s all there. Just in bits and pieces, hidden among clunky banter and attempted action sequences. It’s also harder to follow the movie when you’re more focused on the riffs (and possibly also live chat). I got a lot more out of it on the second viewing (and also caught some riffs I’d missed the first time).
