William Shatner is an underrated actor

He was on ‘Murdoch Mysteries’ a few years ago… as Mark Twain. He didn’t look like Mark Twain. He didn’t sound like Mark Twain. And yet somehow, he was Mark Twain. That takes some sort of acting chops, I think.

Shatner was trained as a stage actor and pretty much remained one through his TV and film career, for better or worse. Most of his real “overacting” in later years is him leaning into it because he knows people find it entertaining. Adam West, Jonathan Harris and other legendary “cheesy” actors did that too.

Oh, I know exactly why Frank blocked me, I just think it was unjustified.

On the off-chance you didn’t see this, NESFA put out a lovely hardcover of her People stories a couple of years ago

They just did another collection of her other stories and I really liked some of those too

“Anything Box” is such a perfect short story

The NESFA ‘People’ book was issued in 1995, so a couple of decades ago.

I agree with the OP. ICYMI here is Shatner in an unsold Nero Wolfe pilot from 1959 in which he plays Archie Goodwin, Wolfe’s assistant:

Some know him as Jim Kirk, others, T. J. Hooker, but I shall always know him, as Denny Crane
