Gizmoplex Vault Picks - What's the Theme?

And isn’t that the whole premise of MST3K itself?

:pensive: OK SO the themes had to get switched around at one point, kind of quickly. Which is how this month wound up with a super banal theme. Full disclosure – I was the point person on the monthly themes for the vault episodes. I do think they get stronger as we go on. I hope they do. It was a surprisingly challenging process but I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out.

Go with this: Displacement

Scientist lady in SANTOS Goes back in time.

Teenager, but from outer space.

Normal Earth man ends up on barbaric world as hero.

Secret android comes to Earth.

Dead kid becomes zombie against his will to kill others.

Woman becomes monster when hypnotized.

Herc battles aliens instead of bad guys or supernatural villains.

All, once taken out of their normal habitats, commence the plots of each movie.

(… like most stories do. Well, I didn’t say it was a perfect solution….)

Indeed, I think that’s the fundamental basis of most literature, at least if I recall my John Gardner (Art of Fiction): There’s statis, and someone arrives (or someone goes) and the balance is disrupted, and the story begins. (And at the end, balance is restored, some way or another, for better or worse.)
