Here’s a clipping of what comedy events were occurring in Minneapolis the week of August 25, 1989. You’ll see a few familiar names at the top and bottom of this list.
Gone microfiche’n’.
If you timed things right, you could have seen three of the Mads in a single night!
Huh. I didn’t realize Lizz Winstead was a contemporary of the BBI team. I always liked her comedy.
She was a guest on The Mads one month and they talked about that a bit, but I can’t recall which month/show that was.
Awesome! But I’m frightened by “David Wood’s Rib Tickler Club”
That’s pretty cool, nice find.
I spotted Joe Keyes, I remember them throwing out the name in riffs and wondering who they were referencing at the time. (Found out later the connection)
Jim Mallon in a couple of interviews noted that the 15 Minutes parody he did with Kevin Murphy in 1987, which featured Murphy interviewing real politicians about a fake story, plays much like a Daily Show piece and wondered if Winstead was inspired by it for her later work, since she may have seen the piece while living in the area.
