House of the Dragon (and Other GoT Nonsense)

I am boggled that we do not currently have a Game of Thrones discussion area, and with House of the Dragon flame throwing everywhere, I figured I’d open a spot.

Who’s watching? What do you think? I’m enjoying it much more than I expected to; Matt Smith is so devilishly perfect and Milly Alcock is a revelation.

I think the tighter focus is really helping…it’s not drowning in its own mass of plot threads. Not yet, anyway.

(Blur major spoilers, please and thank you!)

I saw the first episode of Game of Thrones, said, “that’s enough incest for me,” and didn’t continue.

Man, all I did was hear about it (many seasons into its run) and I thought, “That is not for me.”

Sorry. I hope you find others who are watching. Apparently, the new series is quite popular.

Now that I’m the third voice saying “nope, didn’t see it”, it’s not so surprising we didn’t have a thread. I mean, what’s the goriest movie we MSTies have got? The Touch of Satan? That’s slightly further than I’m usually willing to go.

The Incredible Melting Man for sure.

If it handn’t been censored it may have gone to Squirm.

On a different note, saw these pictures back in 2015, might as well share them here:

I have not seen the final season of GoT still. I spoilered myself and decided I wasn’t that invested in it. When (if) GRRM eventually publishes another instalment it will be a must read though.

I didn’t think it was possible to make Goofy look sinister…

I couldn’t watch Game of Thrones when it first aired. I watched the first few episodes and really liked them. The problem was my wife would be asleep and she kept waking up during the episodes when there was some kind of sex happening without fail and ask me what I was watching. I started watching them on DVD later so my wife didn’t think I was watching porn once she fell asleep.

I just recently posted on this in the What are You Watching thread, so I’ll just cut and paste here…

I watched the first episode of House of the Dragon last night.

I loved GoT, but I can’t say I liked this much. I found it predictable, and enshrining many of the more eye-rolling tropes from GoT. Really, more gratuitous torture porn and roomsful of cavorting naked prostitutes?

I’m not really invested in any of the characters and have little desire to see what happens next, which is certainly in contrast to season 1 of GoT, which grabbed me immediately.

I might watch the second ep to see if it gets better, but if not I’m ditching it and promoting Locke & Key or Miracle Workers into its slot in the rotation.

I was hesitant after watching the first episode, but my wife and I waited and watched 2 and 3 together, and I must say, I am starting to like this new show. Episode 3 was quite good, and it surprised me, which I didn’t think this show could do. I’m in for the season at this point.

I’m hoping somebody will do something unexpected at some point.

Do you hope characters will interact in a way which facilitates verbal communication as well?

No, there was actually too much of that in episode 1.

S1, E5:

Look, just don’t go to a wedding in Westeros. At this point, it’d be a bigger surprise if all that happened at a wedding was…two people getting married!

I don’t watch previews, so I’m not sure, but next episode is the big time jump, yes?

And dang it, how does Matt Smith manage to steal the show every week? They’re too darn good at this!
