Places to which I would return in a heartbeat: Prague, all of the UK and Ireland (I studied abroad in Wales), Rome, Barcelona, the Greek islands, Munich. I hope Porto goes on this list when I return in a couple weeks.
Have been but it’d take a free trip to go back: Paris, Copenhagen, Izmir, Puerto Vallarta.
I’ve shared highlights of some trips in the Nature Photos thread.
I just want to live in a thatched cottage on the edge of a primeval forest and spend my days roaming the downs in a tweed jacket, walking stick in hand.
Back from our cruise to Bermuda. Had a great time overall but the disorganization embarking & disembarking the ship in Norfolk was aggravating! Not to mention having to pay $40 per person to enter Bermuda which was sent only 6 days before our sailing date and if we didn’t pay it we would not be allowed to board the ship!
Despite this we still had a great time. Wish I had more time to explore the island but we were happy just to go souvenir shopping. I doubt we will go back there anytime soon so at least I can chock this off of my bucket list
In one week I’ll be back in New Orleans for the third time! A special trip for my sister who’s never been there. It’s even possible that I will not be posting on the forum during that time. I realize I am risking my Regular status, but sacrifices must sometimes be made.
Welp, it’s time to take my first vacation of 2023!
Driving to Charleston, SC. (around 2.5 hours drive south from my locale), going on another cruise; this time a 10 day Eastern Caribbean with stops in St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Antigua, St. Maarten, & San Juan, PR.
I paid for an internet package so I’ll try to check in from time to time, especially in the football thread while catching the Playoffs on the ship
Left home at 7:30am, arrived at 10. Gassed up the van for the return trip. Got checked in by 10:30 and on board by 11. Really glad we got here early to beat the afternoon crowd.
Just waiting for our room to be ready by 1pm and set sail at 5pm
Anybody ‘ere plannin’ a trip to NYC soon? Yeah, I just said that, 'cause I have a bit of NY blood in me.
Well I know a certain toad to give you some tips!
Just booked a hotel in Las Vegas at the beginning of April. Taking the wife and kids there for a few days to enjoy some sunshine and lay around the pool. I’ve never been so it’ll be exciting to check out the city.
2 days in on our 10 day cruise and it’s mostly senior citizens on this cruise. So I’m standing in line at this deli restaurant on Level 9 and this older lady behind me in line asks me if I knew what the policy is on ATM cash limits and I had no idea. She proceeds to tell me she withdrew and lost $500 at the casino today and was trying to make another withdrawal… I’m thinking you’re 2 days into a 10 day cruise and you’re already broke??
The last couple of days at sea the casino on Level 5 was packed with senior citizens and reeked of cigarette smoke I’m so glad I don’t gamble!
We’re pulling into St Thomas tomorrow so I plan on spending more wisely on souvenirs
I can’t believe this’s gonna happen. At around early-November later this year, I’ll officially be going to Japan for the first time since 2005, meaning the last time I was there, I was only 3 and a half years old!
As far as my state goes, Monterey or Santa Cruz would be nice. I went through Monterey when I was 7 years old once. I’ve been to Shell and Pismo Beach a few times since family friends and my cousin live around there.
I usually like driving trips on the 101 north and CA 1 on Youtube and it always looks nice. They’ve helped me during lockdown.
I’m just east of L.A. County in Upland. Grew up nearby west of the border in Claremont. I went to high school with and graduated same year as Robert Buckley from iZombie and a few Hallmark movies.
This seemed like a good thread to ask for vacation help so…
As I mentioned in the astronomy events thread, I’m making plans to go see the US’s next total solar eclipse, April 8 2024. We’ve picked our location and we’ll be staying in Rockwall, Texas, on the east side of Dallas.
We’ve only got a few days – Saturday evening, Sunday, and Monday evening after the eclipse – what are the Must Do things in Dallas, preferrable on the eastern side so we don’t have to spend time trekking through the city?
Notes: there will be 7 to 9 of us ages 12-75, and activities/locations need to be wheelchair accessible. So no canyoning, and no bar hopping.
I don’t know much about what they have in Dallas, the only thing I can think of is maybe checking out Six Flags in Arlington. Unfortunately it is way on the other side of Dallas.
2 weeks away from our next (and final cruise of the year). 8 Day Eastern Caribbean out of Charleston, SC.
We did have a 6 Day Bahamas Cruise out of Charleston for the last week of September but canceled it. The wife wasn’t interested in going for a third time
Bags are pretty much packed, Tire pressures & fluids on the van checked, informed my bank of our travels (so they don’t lock our Debit/Credit cards), informed my cell carrier so we have the correct international package, and get through the last 2 days of work. We’re Ret-2-Go!
