Wow! I thought that was just another bit of kit-bashing for a silly prop. I had no idea it was based on a historical psychology experiment on monkeys.

Awesome find!

The foundations that MST3K builds their comedy upon never cease to impress me. It is such a smart show, even though many outsiders just see it as dumb people making fun of things they don’t like. That really could not be farther from the truth.

I took psychology classes so I knew about the wire mother, and others, like the riff in Santa Conquers the Martians which referenced B.F. Skinners “Baby Tender” or “Baby in a box” (as an article called it).

Material like that cracked me up.
