Ah yes, the old “it’s Friday night, we’re stoned, and we’re 6 minutes short on the show” sketch. I remember it. They were still getting some mileage out of the 80s cast. The following season would suck and the year after that, they brought in the Will Ferrell cast.
I was wondering who the “blonde guy with the guitar” was since Peter Gabriel was the musical guest, but then I realized they were talking about G.E. Smith.

I found out from Stereogum’s The Number Ones column that G.E. Smith was once in Hall and Oates’ backing band. He’s in a handful of their videos in the early '80s.
