Season 14 Movie Picks

Love Amicus, would be fun to see some more of their movies riffed.

Long shot, but how about something like the Climax! version of Casino Royale? It’s not bad exactly, but a bit stilted and riffable. Only an hour long so would need to be paired with a short.

I think Casino Royale is too close to dead air to be considered for the show’s current format. They haven’t really riffed anything like that since Frank was choosing the movies.

It sounds like something Matthew J. Elliott and Ian Potter might be keen on over at RiffTrax though.

So for the last few years, my Halloween tradition has been to find the goofiest sounding black and white horror movie I can find on Tubi (Tubi is really a gold mine for that sort of thing) and watch it while passing out candy.

This year, it was Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster and it really has that certain something that would make for a perfect MST3K episode.

NASA has built its own Frankenstein-style astronaut (Named Frank, because of course he is) to check out Mars and look for signs of life. (It must have taken some creative paperwork to get that project signed off on.) Frank is able to blend in a lot better than his predecessor. The only thing is his brain occasionally locks up. Probably not a problem. On his way out of Earth’s atmosphere, a Martian spaceship mistakes the rocket for a missile and shoots it down. Frank ejects in an escape pod, and the Martians realize their mistake and decide the only thing to do is eliminate the Astronaut and avoid a full-on conflict with Earth. They send some soldiers down to the escape pod landing site and one of them blasts Frank in the face, burning it and sending him into full-on Frankenstein’s Monster mode.

Meanwhile the Scientists who built Frank are trying to figure out whether he survived or not. They conclude that if anything traumatic happened to him when he was escaping his exploding spacecraft, it could maybe send him into a murderous rampage. And I guess they had no contingency for that. And the Martian queen reveals, via exposition dump, that the reason they were at Earth to begin with was because they’d lost all their women in the Comet Wars. (She delivers this information, seemingly unaware that she’s a woman herself.) And it’s about time to start kidnapping Earth’s women so they can repopulate.

Can our scientists find Frank and stop his murderous rampage? Can Frank and the scientists save Earth’s women?

The whole movie is played absolutely seriously. It seems to have no idea how goofy it is. It would fit in perfectly with the MST3K catalog.

I’m still hoping that the MST3K gang riffs at least one bad feature-length animated movie. Now, I’ve already made a list of suggestions in mind earlier, but I would like to add few more to the list. Here it is:

That’s the one! I was extremely traumatized by this movie as a child, so having it MSTed would be a sweet revenge!

Someone already mentioned the Tingler, but I’ll throw in another William Castle film that will allow us to use our 3D glasses again; 13 Ghosts. I feel like the SOL crew (any of them) could make a lot out of that pile of drek. Bonus, it’s in the public domain!

I want an Andy Sidaris film. I’m never going to get an Andy Sidaris film, but I still want one.

So we’ve had one movie announced; I’m curious as to what films everybody is hoping will be chosen to fill the remaining slots.

If only so we could make use of our 3D glasses again, I’d really like to see the original 13 Ghosts be chosen as one of the films (bonus, it’s in the public domain!) To add to that, it’d be fun to see The Tingler be riffed, if only so we can get a Vincent Price film added to MST3K’s annals.

So how about it guys? What films would you like to see now that we’ve got Battle Beyond the Stars chosen?

Anything black and white. It’s the soul of the show.

KITTIES!! :paw_prints:

I don’t see a point hoping for any specific movie because it depends on what they can get the rights to. So I just want something black and white. The Mask was fun, and sort of scratched that itch, but I want something black and white and crappier. The Mask was almost a good movie.

I know Joel wants widescreen movies, but riffing old, black and white crappy movies is so integral to the show and it’s the one thing I think the show is missing right now. The shorts showed that 4:3 is fine for modern MST3K.

But I have a feeling I won’t get my wish.

Isn’t there some horror movie that features a horde of cats attacking a blonde lady in typically 80’s dress? I’ve seen gifs of it before but I don’t know what the movie is; however, just that one scene in gif format is enough to make me say “RIFF THIS!”

Might be Strays. I don’t remember Mrs. Bland’s hair color. I do remember a special appearance by the same peanut-brittle architecture we saw in Puma Man. Plus the weirdness of a kid who looked six or seven forced to play an infant and be kept in a crib half the time.

So where is that image from? And what’s with the woman who appears to accept Donald Duck as a model for how to dress in public?

It’s from the latest experiment that Joel just announced for Season 14; Battle Beyond the Stars.

As to the woman, I haven’t seen the movie (yet), so I got no clue.
